For :icongeneral-radix:

I've never drawn Sonic before. And actually, up until recently, I didn't much care for the games. I tried some of them and I couldn't really get into them. I absolutely loved Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed though, and have really taken a liking to Sonic Generations as well. So I'm starting to like this character and it was fun drawing him. The cartoony mascot type character isn't the kind I usually draw, and when drawing fanart, I like using my own style rather than drawing too much from the source material. I was curious how this would turn out (style-wise), but I'm fairly happy with it.

I came up with the idea of the picture fairly quickly, but I was originally wanting to do more of a third-person perspective behind Eggman. This way, I could show Green Hill Zone in the background, and a long, destroyed trail of land that Sonic was ripping through as he sped across it to beat up Eggman at the end of the level. But while that angle would be more interesting and demonstrate the speed better, I felt it would make the punch look less impactful. It also might be kind of awkward figuring out how to show Eggman adequately at that angle (since a punch to the gut wouldn't show Eggman's face, and the back of him isn't very interesting either).

So I changed it a side view so that both characters would be shown adequately. It inadvertantly turned out to be kinda reminiscent of my old Goku-killing-Piccolo-Daimao picture, except less violent...but still violent for Sonic. As a plus, while I didn't get to show Green Hill Zone, at least I didn't have to go to the trouble of trying to draw it in either. I hate drawing backgrounds.

When I was drawing the pod ship thingy, I was wondering, "Did I draw enough debris to make up for the size of the hole that was apparently punched through?". Then when I was colouring the pod ship thingy, I was wondering, "Why the hell did I draw so much debris?! This is taking so long for so little!".

Colouring the rest was annoying at times as well; with so many overlapping elements and me not knowing anything about proper lighting and shadows, I'm sure there are a lot of shadows in places where there shouldn't be (or a lack of shadows in places where they should be). I also wasn't sure what to do with the lighting from the flame. By that point, I had been working on the picture for hours that day (right after a busy work day, too...). I wanted to get this done. Though even if I had all the time in the world, I still don't have the actual knowledge or experience of lighting to know what I'm doing wrong or how to make it better. So I'd be scrutinizing things even longer, but still not actually getting anywhere.

That's Eggman's chair behind him, ripped out of the ship with him. I don't know what I was thinking at the time, other than that it would look cool and add to the impact. I'm not sure there's any real logic to the chair being ripped out like that.

I feel like I'm rambling again. I'm tired and I really should've went to sleep an hour ago to get up for work in the morning. But I really wanted to finish this. I'm sure there's a bunch of other problems I forgot to mention or didn't notice yet to correct before I posted this. Hopefully I didn't miss anything too bad...I always miss things until AFTER I think I'm "done".

Hope you like it, :icongeneral-radix:.
